Christ Memorial believes it’s essential for families to be engaged in church community and faith development together. We offer a variety of opportunities to help make that a reality for YOUR family too—not just a single class or program, but a holistic effort to ensure all the main ways your family interacts with our church community:

  • Take the needs of children and families into account
  • Strengthen faith-based bonds within your family
  • Strengthen faith-based bonds between your family and your church

So what does this look like?

Worship services support families.

We love having children in our worship services and welcome any noise and movement that comes with their presence. Children are just as much a part of Jesus’ family as adults are, and we want them to also receive the blessings of worship as full members of our church community. This means:

  • We don’t have a nursery because we don’t want children and families separated from everyone else.
  • We DO have a children’s worship AREA that is part of the regular worship space, where there are child-sized tables and little space for kids to move around.
  • We have a family support team who can sit with your family, take a child to the restroom, offer a hug or word of encouragement, take turns with you holding your baby, or any number of things to help make your family’s worship experience less stressful.
  • We provide a family resource table with children’s worship bags, snacks, and scribble sheets for you to bring into worship with you.
  • We encourage you to sit closer to the front so your children are engaged by the sights and sounds of what’s happening.
  • We encourage you to explain to your kids what’s happening during the service, and chime in on congregation singing and speaking parts.

Faith-building at home isn’t mysterious.

Helping our kids grow in their relationship with Jesus, their understanding of Christianity, and their desire to serve people around them, doesn’t always come as naturally as helping our kids with homework or make sure they practice their music or sports skills. But it doesn’t have to be as hard as it seems, and we’re committed to putting tools in the hands of parents to make nurturing your kids in the faith more accessible. Right now these tools include:

  • Materials at the Family Resource Table outside worship each week, for you to take home, read, and share with your family
  • A quarterly email (called “Table Talk”) with with tools and ideas for family discussion, engagement, and activities. You’ll also be able to find an archive of these on this website.
  • Sunday morning learning time for parents will include ways to continue engaging your kids throughout the week on the topics covered

Everyone can dig deeper on Sunday mornings.

As of Fall 2017, we adjusted our worship schedule to make sure everyone has time to discuss and connect over God’s Word in addition to attending worship. Our main time for these ‘discussing and connecting’ sessions is at 10:00am—for all ages—but there are also some sessions at 9:00am for those who attend our earliest worship service.

Many of the sessions fall under our “Connections” initiative, which emphasizes inter-generational learning and relationships. A few of the Connections sessions are even designed so parents and kids are studying the same topics each week, at age-appropriate levels. This makes family discussion afterward/during the week even easier, and parents will be given specific suggestions on how to do this after each session.

There are also additional adult bible studies that cover topics beyond the Connections initiative.

Families have supportive relationships in the church community.

We want both children and adults to have genuine, loving relationships with other children and adults from our church. We want families to be able to “do life together” with other families. In addition to encountering each other and learning together on Sunday mornings, children and adults can:

  • Join a Community Group. A large percentage of our church is engaged in these smaller groups that meet weekly or regularly to further study God’s word, but also serve together, enjoy one another, and generally walk together during everyone’s current season of life. Every group is open to people of all ages, and the intention is that a whole family is part of the same community group.
  • Participate in Loved+Sent University (launching in 2018). This will be a semester-long course for families to more deeply understand and apply the realities that we are unimaginably loved by the God of the universe, and sent by him with incredible purpose. More details to come.

  • Praise Kids. Children grades K–8 are welcomed to join our multi-age Praise Kids Choir under the direction of Mrs. Dianne Mueller. It’s a wonderful way for children to participate in the worship and learn more about music! It’s appreciated when children who participate in choir are consistent in their attendance both at rehearsals and singing in worship. We miss their wonderful voices if they are not present! Praise Kids registration and schedule will be available early Fall.
  • PK Players. Children grades K-8 are welcomed to join our PK Players Drama Ministry under the direction of Mrs. Dianne Mueller. It’s a wonderful way for children to be introduced to drama ministries and serve in worship and other children’s events! No experience is necessary. PK Players registration and schedule will be available early Fall.
Christ Memorial Child Care Center is a ministry of Christ Memorial Lutheran Church that provides an opportunity for all children to be loved, nurtured, and cared for as God loves, nurtures, and cares for us.

At Christ Memorial Child Care, we believe that children are unique creations of God with individual patterns of growth which affect their development, and that children have a natural desire to learn.  We also believe young children’s play experiences provide an important vehicle for learning.  Through play, children are actively engaged in their learning, develop their creativity and language skills, and move from concrete to abstract thinking.  Our activities and environment are geared to meet the needs and interests of the individual child.

A number of full time and part time options are available for children 8 weeks to 5 years old, and we welcome children ages 5-9 into our summer camp. We invite you to learn more about Christ Memorial Child Care Center by visiting the program’s website.

Green Park Lutheran School is owned and operated by Christ Memorial, Gethsemane, Peace and Resurrection Lutheran Churches. For more than 50 years, Green Park has offered excellence in K-8 Christian education through academic rigor and a Christ-centered approach.

Christ Memorial and Green Park invite you to explore the vibrant educational community that makes Green Park a place that alumni send their own children. As Christians, we are blessed to have a school that can minister to the entire child – speaking openly of Christ, teaching children to lead a life of sound morals, and providing an opportunity for spiritual growth. Green Park paves the way for students’ academic futures by preparing them for life in high school and beyond.
