Full-Day Sites

Bethlehem Lutheran Church Construction/Handiwork

Bethlehem Lutheran is one of Christ Memorial’s sister churches, located in North St. Louis county. A strong outreach congregation, Bethlehem is seeking assistance with the upkeep of their facility, especially following the collapse of their sanctuary in April 2014. For this mission, we will be assisting with handiwork on this church campus.

Length of Project: 10am-3pm

Age Limit: 18 years and older

Christ Memorial Servant Event Prayer

Servants coming together for directed prayer, led by Pastor Ed Dubberke. This is a full day event, though feel free to come and go as you so choose.

Green Park Lutheran School Maintenance

Green Park is a Lutheran grade school affiliated with Christ Memorial. Green Park successfully provides Christian education to students from Kindergarten through eighth grade. Our mission project will take place on school grounds–raking leaves, washing windows, cleaning, weeding, planting flowers and other miscellaneous projects to help with the school’s general upkeep.

Length of Project: 10am – 3pm

Materials to Bring: Rakes, tarps, gloves, etc. (for raking), sponges, buckets, step ladders, etc. for washing windows — if available.

Humanitri Home Yard Work

Humanitri seeks to move families and individuals from crisis and uncertainty to stability and self-sufficiency. This organization strengthens families facing personal crisis by channeling principles of faith and social responsibility to improve their quality of life. Volunteers will be helping with yard work in and around a number of house’s that are owned by the Humanitri organization.

Length of Project: 10am-3pm

Age Limit: Ages 13 and older

Humanitri Homeless to Home Sweet Home

Humanitri seeks to move families and individuals from crisis and uncertainty to stability and self-sufficiency. This organization strengthens families facing personal crisis by channeling principles of faith and social responsibility to improve their quality of life. Volunteers will be preparing a home for a family to move into through the Humanitri’s Homeless to Home Sweet Home program . The preparation may include painting, cleaning, and light house repair.

Length of Project: 10am-3pm

Operation Brightside – Outdoor Naturescaping (4 Different Locations)

Operation Brightside is a volunteer organization assisting in the greening of St Louis neighborhoods. Volunteers will be helping neighborhoods improve their outdoor public spaces through soil preparation & planting or other similar activities.

Length of Project: 10am – 2pm

Christian Friends of New Americans – Peace Center

Christian Friends of New Americans links you with opportunities to connect with immigrants and refugees living in the St. Louis region. CFNA partners with local Lutheran congregations, schools, individuals and various grant-giving foundations to offer a range of programs and services for New Americans. We will be assisting Christian Friends of New Americans by landscaping, painting, cleaning and organizing supplies at their Peace Center.

Lutheran High School South

Lutheran South is the Lutheran high school affiliated with Christ Memorial. Our mission project will take place on school grounds –removing old bushes & planting new ones, weeding, mulching, and other general, outdoor clean-up work.

Christ Memorial Servant Event Daycare

This mission will be to volunteer to watch young children the day of the event. Christ Memorial is sponsoring this daycare for those families with young children that have volunteered for Christ Memorial Mission Projects.

Our Little Haven

Our Little Haven serves the youngest victims of abuse, neglect & mental or behavioral needs through programs designed to offer and facilitate early intervention. For this mission, we will do outdoor work around the grounds and possibly some indoor cleaning.

Rainbow Village

Rainbow Village enhances the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities by providing safe, affordable and well-maintained neighborhood homes. For this mission, we will be beautifying the grounds of their campus, doing yard work and light maintenance.

County Older Residents Program (CORP)

Since 1975, the County Older Resident Programs (CORP) has provided quality service to Saint Louis County residents age 60 and over. CORP has identified some local residents who could use some extra help with yard or home repairs. Volunteers will be traveling to residential homes to assist these individuals with washing windows, raking leaves, painting, and general cleaning. (Some projects may include light lifting).

Humboldt Academy for Higher Learning

The Humboldt Academy of Higher Learning is a St. Louis magnet school in the Soulard neighborhood. Humboldt was opened for students in grades 3 through 5 at the start of the 2011-12 school year to meet the ever-growing demand for Constructivist curriculum offered to younger ages. Volunteers will be doing a variety of maintenance projects around the school grounds.

Morning Sites

Feed My People/Ferguson Food Bank

Feed My People is a Christian inter­denominational organization that strives to show God’s love and compassion to all His people, but particularly to His people in need. Volunteers will stay at Christ Memorial to sort through canned good donations including checking expiration dates, marking through the UPC codes, sorting, and boxing. There may be an opportunity to deliver some items to local food pantries! This is a ½ day event with the goal of finishing by noon.

Singing at Southview Assisted Living & Memory Care

Southview is a senior living community which offers assisted living and dementia/memory care and innovative activity programs. Volunteers will be visiting Southview to sing to the residents. Please note that the Christ Memorial choir is spearheading this mission, but there are spots available for non-choir members! Join with the choir on familiar songs as you sing for residents!

South County Pregnancy Help Center

South County Pregnancy Help Center provides advice for women regarding pregnancies, whether it is about an unwanted pregnancy or to a woman who cannot get pregnant – they have many programs that help these individuals and their families. For this mission, we will be assisting with general upkeep around the building, inside and out.

Uganda Backpacks

For this site, volunteers will learn about an orphanage in Uganda as they organize and stuff backpacks for children at this orphanage. Nancy Wilson (sister of CM member, Mark Wilson) is a special friend of the orphanage and makes frequent visits – she will be delivering these backpacks on her next trip to Uganda.

Fresno’s Diner

Fresno’s Diner opened in 2014 in the College Hill neighborhood, and is run by a dynamic local owner who wholeheartedly believes in providing her neighborhood with good food, a comfortable space to relax, and opportunities to connect with each other. This is located in an area where takeout food is the norm but places to fellowship over a meal are rare. Your food purchase and presence at Fresno’s is our way of showing support for this important business. Rev. David Vaughn will be there to present the story of the diner and other mission experiences in that neighborhood.

Laclede Groves Retirement Home

Laclede Groves is one of the Lutheran Senior Service Communities in St. Louis. Laclede Groves offers independent living, short term care, residential care, memory care, and skilled nursing care. Volunteers will be raking and trimming around the outdoor grounds.

Crafting Fleece Blankets

Volunteers will meet at Christ Memorial to put together pillows and blankets – another group will deliver these hand-made items to the Community Care Center Nursing Home as an afternoon mission.

Community Appreciation: Cookie Baking

To show appreciation to our Police Depts, Fire Depts and EMTs who serve our communities, volunteers will be baking and packaging cookies (dozens & dozens)! This mission is in preparation for an afternoon delivery (to be done as a separate mission event). All baking will be done in Christ Memorial’s kitchen, so it is not necessary to bake ahead of time.

Afternoon Sites

Community Care Center Nursing Home

Community Care Center is a small skilled nursing facility in the Lemay area. Meet at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church to pick up gifts of blankets, cards and pillows made earlier in the day by another group of volunteers. You will join with others and deliver the gifts to residents of this nursing facility as you visit with them — this is greatly welcomed by the Center, as many residents do not have family members.

Lydia’s House

Lydia’s House provides transitional housing for abused women and their children while working in Faith to end domestic violence. For this mission, we will be doing yard work, indoor cleaning and anything in between!

International Student Ministry “Rake N Run”

International Student Ministry -St. Louis is an organization aimed at sharing the love of God by building deep, personal friendships with international college students on the campuses of Washington University, Webster University, Maryville University and Saint Louis University. For this mission, we will be partnering with ISM-St. Louis to do a “Rake N Run” — random act of kindness by way of dropping in on unsuspecting folks in our community and cleaning up their autumn leaves, for no other reason than to share God’s love!

Length of Project: 1 – 3pm (12:30 for devotion and send-off)

Cookie Delivery to Local Police

Volunteers will meet at Christ Memorial to pick up baked goods (made by morning volunteers) and then deliver these baked items to local police departments and other public servants as expression of gratitude for their service.

Special Needs Soccer (SPENSA)

The Special Needs Soccer Association, SPENSA, is a Not-for-Profit, St. Louis-based soccer program for young people with disabilities. This program is designed to bring the excitement and fun of playing soccer to players who traditionally have not had a place in the youth soccer system. Volunteers will be a “buddy” to players, helping them during the pregame warm-up and the game. Volunteers do not have to be a soccer expert; they just need to be someone who is willing to have fun. There are coaches on the field to give directions and assistance as needed.

Christ Memorial Servant Event BBQ

This mission will be to prepare BBQ for returning Loved Sent Servant Event mission servants! This mission site will be spear-headed by Christ Memorial’s Men’s Club, but we also need volunteers to help serve the food!

Length of Project: 3:00 – 5:00pm (BBQ from 3:30-4:30pm)

Barbecue – Set up and Clean up

Volunteers will help set up and clean up the Commons are at Christ Memorial for our fellowship barbecue at the end of the day! This missions site involves moving tables, chairs, and other items related to eating and to sharing our experiences. Some physical strength required. Note that there will be time for you to enjoy the barbecue between set up and clean up!
